John Chowning is an American composer renowned for his groundbreaking contributions to the world of electronic music. He is best known for pioneering FM synthesis (Frequency Modulation), a revolutionary technique that has had a profound impact on music and sound design. His work led for example to the development of the iconic Yamaha DX7 synthesizer, which played a significant role in shaping the sound of the 1980s.
